Transgender Day of Rememberance

Youth Pride Inc. observes the 13th Annual International Transgender Day of Remembrance:

November 20, 2011 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
at Bell Street Chapel (5 Bell St., Providence, RI)

Transgender Day of Remembrance is a time for the transgender community and their allies to remember the lives which have been lost to hatred and bias against transgender people. Statistically, one transgender person is murdered each month in the US. Most of these crimes go unsolved and are handled insensitively by the press. TDOR is a time to memorialize the lives of our transgender brothers and sisters with the dignity and respect.

Rhode Island's Statewide TDOR event is organized by a committee of volunteers who are working to make a difference in our community. It is sponsored by Youth Pride, Inc. and the TGI-Network of Rhode Island.

This year's event will involve a candlelight vigil to take place in the Sanctuary at Bell Street Chapel at 6pm followed by refreshments and a town hall style meeting in the function room. We are seeking donations of snacks and desserts to share. The town hall meeting will be a discussion about the state of the transgender community in Rhode Island. All is welcome to attend this event. For more information, please contact Jaye Watts.

For a list of people to be memorialized this year, visit www.transgenderdor.org
